Remembering Wilfred Mamo
Dear all, as some of you may be aware this coming June, twenty five years ago, Wilfred Mamo our club President was lost at sea in a terrible storm when crossing from Italy to Sardinia to watch England play in the Italia Novanta World Cup.
Wilfred was not just a great President who brought unprecedented success to our club but moreover a player, a swimmer and an exemplary club man.
We feel it is only fitting that Wilfred is remembered in an appropriate way. We are sure you will agree that his dedication and contribution to the club should not go unrecognised nor forgotten.
It is for this reason that we have taken the initiative to commission a memorial plaque which will be put up at the club and unveiled on the 7th of June, 25 years to the day of that tragic event.
We are therefore calling on members, players and friends, past and present, to make a contribution towards the expense involved. We suggest that these should be in the region of Euros 100. Any superfluous funds received will be put to good use assisting a cause that Wilfred would have approved of.
This initiative has the approval and backing of Wilfred’s children Andrew, Rachel and Julian.
Please feel free to pledge your contribution by mailing Julian Sammut at [email protected]. Cheques addressed to Neptunes W.P.S.C. may be mailed to Julian Sammut, 60, Triq il-Grazzja, Haz-Zebbug.
Thank you very much.
