Malta captain Niki Lanzon lands top-scorer award in Limerick tournament
The evergreen Neptunes and Malta captain Niki Lanzon was at his very best when leading his country to a prestigious international tournament win in Limerick, Ireland, on the 16th March 2014. His eloquent displays were rewarded when he finished at the summit of the overall scorers’ rankings in the eight-team competition.

NikI Lanzon in action for Malta
Our long-serving star player emulated the scoring achievements of the absent Stevie Camilleri when netting a total of 21 goals in five matches, a remarkable average of 4.2 goals per match and almost 25% of Malta’s tally of 85 goals. His playmaking and striking skills helped Malta achieve an ‘en plein’ when beating Wales 23-8, the Czech Republic 18-6, Denmark 18-9, Ireland 17-7 and again Denmark in the gold medal match, 9-8.
This top-scorer honour befits the status of a player whose dedication and perseverance are shining lights for others to emulate. His modesty emerges every time he turns out outstanding performances both as an all-round player as well as a prolific scorer. It is a mark of his character that somehow he manages to play down these achievements.
A big well done to our captain, one of Malta’s waterpolo’s greats!
