Camilleri heads Serie A scorers’ list

Steve Camilleri is still churning out the goals for RN Bogliasco.
His latest massive contribution was that of Saturday when he helped himself to a poker as his side toppled CC Ortigia 19-15 to regain sixth position in the 12-team table on ten points.
It was the ninth day of the 22-match championship programme in the Italian A1 elite league.
Camilleri’s four strikes lifted him for the first time to the summit of the scorers’ list with 26 goals and equal with Valentino Gallo, of CN Posillipo.
More than that, the Maltese player’s goals-per-match statistics have put him well ahead of the 131 scorers who so far appear in the rankings. It is 3.25 out of eight matches this season, with Gallo second on 2.89 per match out of nine.
Camilleri’s goals have also helped him maintain the distance from Bogliasco’s team-mates, the Italian and German national team players Arnaldo Deserti and Heiko Nossek, who are both on 19. In the first two seasons, the Malta and Neptunes goal-getter topped Bogliasco’s list while last year he finished second to Nossek.
On Saturday, Predrag Zimonjic and Bogdan Rath, who played for Sirens and Sliema respectively last summer and are now on the books of Ortigia, turned out for their side, the former scoring a hat-trick.
The surprise teams of the season, RN Savona and AN Brescia, are leading the table with 23 and 22 points respectively, followed by champions Pro Recco on 21 points.
