Below-Par Neptunes Concede Title
This was an anti-climax for our boys. A below-par performance against Sliema helped the Blues wrest the winter title from our possession.
Frankly, we were let down by some sloppy teamwork which was particularly evident in the third session after we had been on almost equal terms in the first two.
Unable to shake off our opponents’ stringent press and displaying signs of rustiness in the offensive phase we gradually came unstuck against the in-form Blues who had nine exclusions from which we could only profit three times. On their part, Sliema netted half from four man-up sets, with John Brownrigg scoring a hat-trick.
In essence our more established players did not reach the levels expected of them and that was our main undoing.
We need to summon all our cutting edge and expertise in view of the summer competitions which are round the corner.
