Neptunes girls leave their mark in synchro swimming
As is now customary our club never fails to be in the forefront of aquatic sports when Team Malta participates in international competition. Senior and junior waterpolo teams, and swimming squads representing our country always comprise several Neptunes athletes.
Synchronised swimming is the latest discipline to include youngsters from Neptunes on international duty for Malta.
Late in 2014 three club girls, Mya Azzopardi, Andria Friggieri, and Amy Grech formed part of the Malta team which had a successful stint in a high level Under-13 synchro competition in Flanders, Belgium, which was staged under the auspices of LEN and FINA.
Azzopardi formed part of a tandem with Mikela Riolo who won Silver when competing against girls from the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Ukraine, Switzerland and hosts Belgium in the Duets event.
Twelve-year-old Mya also obtained a creditable 5th place in the Solo event when pitting her emerging talents with 11 strong and more experienced competitors.
Together with Friggieri and Grech she was again part of the ten-strong Team Malta who scooped the Bronze medal in the team competition.
It must be noted that the girl is also a fine swimmer, with two national junior records under her belt.
A hearty well-done to our girls.
